Trois Bras Signposts
Still found throughout Mauritius, the Trois Bras or "Three Arms" road sign reminds us of simpler times in days passed. Many of the remaining sign posts are showing their age but still defiantly point to their destinations. Commonly, these signposts would have three arms, pointing to three different destinations, hence the name Trois Bras but no matter how many arms were found on a signpost, they were always referred to as Trois Bras.
With the main body of the signpost typically made from cast iron, this was not something you wanted to crash into. Designed and installed during the British period they hark back to a time when there were significantly fewer vehicles on the roads.
Whilst many of these signposts have been removed or replaced, there remain a dwindling number which stand either majestic or forlorn.
